Pawinee was selected in 2003 to represent the District of Columbia by painting an Easter Egg for the 2004 Easter celebration at the White House. This event, sponsored by the National Egg Council, challenged artists in each state to create their own egg masterpieces and compete to represent their state. On April 1, 2004, the State Easter Egg collection was exhibited at the White House Visitor Center in Washington, D.C. The special guest, of course, was First Lady Laura Bush, who carefully inspected and admired each egg.
Pawinee was honored by being selected to meet Mrs. Bush and show her egg, which features the front and back of the White House and is topped with red, white, and blue bunting. It is painted in oils on a real chicken egg shell. The First Lady was very charming and personable.
The following pictures are but a few of the many shots taken that day!
